Admin,
Neverthless I find your site very useful to we followers of the game, somehow, of late, I think you are not keen on updating the stuff on your site.
There was a time you use to upload the Race Card at the Acceptance stage itself and update it after the declaration. Now the Race Card is being uploaded after declaration on the race day only. I dont know why? May be the sale of your Race Book is affected because of early publication of race card in your site?
It is easy to accommodate BODY WEIGHT OF THE HORSE, PENETROMETER READING of LAST RACES, ETC which are vital information to any race card, in the present template of your race card. You have increased the price of the Bol Race Book, but you are least bothered to give these information in the race card with one pretext or other. Just check Cole Race Card, they have added Body weight of the horse in their book. Some day, Lucky Spinner will add the Penetro meter Reading. You have already added the Shoeing details during declaration of jockeys.
It is shame that there is not a single race book available in India with all these information. Even your Race Card published in this site does not give the Jersey Colors of the jockey.
I have a suggestion:
Give detailed comments, like racing incidents, including track work of the horse, hotline, etc just below the name of the horse in the main race card.
To accommodate these informations, you have to increase the pages of the book.
We are ready to pay upt o Rs 50 if you can publish a SPECIAL RACE CARD with all these information, and I hope this will be a success. For normal race goers, present one is o.k. |

| Topic : The Art Of Race Callingg | Posted on : 15/2/2010 |

Recently, some messages have been posted on another racing site praising Deepak Rajpal, one of the commentators at RWITC, billing him as the best Indian race commentator. Well, he will have to display a lot of improvement to command that billing. Well, the writer missed Rajpal on the Derby day while Rajpal himself gave the commentary for the Derby.
The essential attributes of an excellent commentator are accuracy, voice modulation, composure in close finishes, soothing pace and tone, a sense of balance such as whether to call out the names of all the runners at the cost of missing a large part of the race, packing excitement without getting carried away and presenting a true representation of the progress of the race. Rajpal has a long way to go in most of these aspects.
The best race caller so far, without a doubt, has been Mr Cyrus Madan. He packed excitement and enthusiasm in his commentary, was perfect in calling out the positions, his voice was strong without being harsh and his controlled pace made it soothing to the ear instead of sounding like a mad rush. The second best race caller so far has been Mr Ivor Fernandes (the trainer) who used to be a race caller in the past. The third best was a commentator at Hyderabad whose name I do not recollect, the fourth best was Mr Harish, the fifth best was Dr Sood and after that may be Deepak Rajpal.
Rajpal has tremendous scope for improvement. His voice is hoarse and jarring and he becomes virtually hysterical when faced with a close finish. His speed of commentary is way too fast to make it enjoyable and accurate. His eysight is perhaps weak as even when a horse is travelling 5 or 6 wide, he sees it to be on the inner rails. He has a fetish for calling out the names of all the runners in a race. Due to this, especially in a sprint race with a good field, a lot of action is missed by the time he finishes calling out all the runners. Another drawback of Rajpal is that he gets carried away when a favourite comes into contention in the closing stages. Several cases can be sighted to illustrate this point. For example, in the Indian Derby, when Jacqueline was making her run under the whip through the gap on the inside of Becket at about 200 meters and as Hughes stopped pushing her for a stride or two as he was cramped for room, Rajpal called out that Jaqueline was cantering. On quite a few occasions, the horses which were ‘flying’ according to him could not overtake the horse they had challenged. Many times he even calls out the names wrongly. In the past, Dr Sood was removed as a commentator only because he called out the name of a horse wrongly. Well, it is a poor reflection if anyone thinks Rajpal is the best commentator we have had.
